Our Latest Projects:

In support of OASE, an annual internship program managed by Oregon SeaGrant and Oregon DEQ, PPRC advised college interns working on groundbreaking summer internships at manufacturers in Oregon. Below are highlights of their work:
  • Tofurky: Collected and analyzed water and energy consumption in processing, to inform and prioritize energy and water efficiency improvement efforts.
  • Pacific Seafoods: Created a chemical inventory, standardized sanitation chemicals and dilution processes, identified opportunities to reduce overall consumption and wastes, and consolidated transportation of sanitation chemicals.
  • Oregon Soap Company: Submitted data to certify one product under EPA’s Safer Choice, and identified energy, water, and solid waste reductions.
  • Good Clean Love: Performed life cycle assessments (LCAs) of their personal care products in order to certify products as carbon neutral. Also explored possibility of certifying personal care products under Safer Choice.

Tofurky’s intern –  Katherine Gwynn – was the recipient of NPPR’s P2 Student of the Year award! According to Chris Dennett, Director of Strategy and Integration at Tofurky, Katherine presented the data:

“In clear and concise terms. She built the case for action by showing opportunities to reduce our environmental impact with cost efficient solutions.”

EPA Columbia River Basin Restoration Funding
Through our EPA Columbia River Basin Restoration funding, PPRC has hired a new employee (Botond) and are partnering with OR DEQ to deliver trainings to businesses on reducing toxics by selecting and purchasing safer products, bolstering EcoBiz and Safer Choice. PPRC has been administering the statewide EcoBiz certification program in Oregon for nearly 15 years and continues to work closely with OR DEQ and local jurisdictions to certify eco-friendly auto shops and landscapers.
