Green Sports: Never an offseasonSeptember 12, 2012
PPRC and the U.S. EPA Region 10 have spent the summer developing exciting new resources to help sports teams and venues green their operations. These resources debuted at the Green Sports Alliance Summit, held September 5-7, 2012 in Seattle, WA – where over 425 leaders from the sports community shared case studies, panel discussions, and site visits supporting best practices and long-range commitments to environmental, social and economic sustainability.
PPRC’s Greening Sports Resource Hub features two technical assistance resources tailored specifically to green sports opportunities:
- Greening Sports Rapid Response Service: free, fast research for answers to your questions about greener sports policies and practices
- Greening Sports Directory: concise, free, comprehensive guide to local-state-national people, programs, & incentives.
Web resources from the Green Sports Alliance and the National Resources Defense Council already help sports teams and venues learn about what to do, and why, when it comes to saving money by improving their environmental footprint.
PPRC’s Greening Sports Resource Hub directs users to who they can contact, locally and nationally, for specific help with the next improvements they want to achieve. The Directory features contacts and resources, organized by major metropolitan areas, for these topics:
- Energy Efficiency
- Fan Engagement
- Green Cleaning
- Green Purchasing
- Waste Management
- Water Efficiency
- Additional Opportunities: Transportation, Groundskeeping, and others
The Greening Sports Directory is a prototype at present, and will be improved and expanded in the future. If you have any user feedback or questions, please send us an email.
