DERA Partnership Presented with Seattle Business Magazine’s Green Business 50 AwardNovember 2, 2012
Last night at Seattle Business Magazine’s 2012 Green Washington Awards, PPRC and our partners Interstate Distributors, Inc., and Freight Wing received the Washington Green 50 Award in the Nonprofit Category for our EPA-funded Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) project that works toward improving fuel efficiency in the transportation industry. We are honored by the award and are grateful to Interstate and Freight Wing for their exemplary work on this project.
About the DERA Partnership
A public-private partnership among three entities united by a common goal: fuel efficiency in the transportation industry.
Green Actions: Freight Wing manufactures aerodynamic trailer side skirts—fairings that direct airflow away from the underside of a tractor Team_webtrailer, increasing a truck’s highway fuel efficiency by an average of five percent. Interstate Distributor is a national leader in regional and transcontinental trucking. The two were brought together by the PPRC, which secured emission reduction grant money from the Environmental Protection Agency to help Interstate outfit 2,058 of its 53-foot trailers with Freight Wing trailer skirts. Interstate will pay 71 percent of the project cost, with the EPA funding covering the remainder.
Results: The project, which began in earnest in September 2010, will save a total of 16 million gallons of fuel over its lifespan, preventing more than 182,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
