Article/report Abstract: This evaluation quantifies the relative contribution of: (1) mercury from dental facilities that enters surface water as compared to the total amount of mercury entering surface water from other sources; (2) the amount of mercury in municipal sludge attributable to wastewater discharged from dental facilities; and (3) the contribution of mercury from dental facilities to the levels of methylmercury in the environment. This paper also evaluates the cost versus the benefits of further reductions in dental amalgam discharges.
